An interesting piece about a green project that didn't go so well.  I'm not saying this has never happened to me, but this is the first time I've heard of a rain garden failing.

Maryland and Pervious Concrete

This had slipped by me.  Under "The Stormwater Management Act of 2007", LID is now mandatory in the State of Maryland (they are now calling it ESD).  You can get up to speed here.

Porous Concrete and Unraveling

Maybe someday, the world will agree on terminology.  Until then, we are stuck with the terms, “porous concrete” being used instead of the proper term, “pervious concrete”; and “unraveling” being used in place of the proper term “raveling”.

 

So, if you’re thinking to yourself, “Is it porous concrete or pervious concrete?”  It’s “pervious concrete”.

 

Likewise if you’re thinking, “Is it unraveling or raveling?”  It’s “raveling” in the U.S., and “ravelling” in the U.K. and the rest of the world where they use British English.

Fire Trucks and Pervious Concrete

UC Davis has put out an interesting piece about fire trucks and pervious concrete, here.  It has some technical challenges, but includes a good discussion on the need to balance stormwater needs with emergency access.

The New Pervious Concrete Blog

It's been a while since I've posted.  As you can see, the new site is up! 

Please redirect your RSS reader here by clicking the "Subscribe" link above.  If you use iGoogle as your RSS reader, at the lower right had corner of the banner at the top of your iGoogle page, click on “Add Stuff”. Pervious Concrete Community

Why do I write this blog? 

The idea is to build some sort of sense of community among the pervious concrete people in the world.  
 
As a pervious concrete community, today we get to see each other a few times a year at the different conferences, and even have a few meetings to discuss the technology.  But, to build a strong, cohesive, technologically sound group, we need to interact more often, so the blog is a touch point.  

Then another leg of this community building is the conference call/webinar that the NRMCA is hosting on Friday, July 10, 2009.  This was actually Paulette Salisbury's idea.   Together we refined it and brought it to Dan Huffman who has taken it and really made it big!  I hope you can make it.  To join in (and it’s free) Contact: NRMCA’s Michelle Barringer at (240) 485-1143 or E-Mail: mbarringer@nrmca.org
